MBBS Eligibility Criteria 2026 – NMC Official Requirements
The National Medical Commission (NMC) of India defines the eligibility for MBBS admission 2026. All candidates must fulfill the following criteria without exception, regardless of the college type or quota they are applying through.
- Must have passed Class 12 / equivalent board examination
- Compulsory subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology
- Minimum 50% aggregate in PCB – General/OBC/EWS
- Minimum 40% aggregate in PCB – SC/ST/PwD
- English as a compulsory subject
- Biotechnology accepted as Biology substitute (NMC 2026)
- Minimum age: 17 years on or before 31 December 2026
- No upper age limit (Supreme Court ruling 2022)
- Date of birth as per Class 10 certificate is final
- Candidates appearing in Class 12 can apply provisionally
- NEET UG 2026 qualification is mandatory for all
- General/OBC/EWS: minimum 50th percentile
- SC/ST/PwD: minimum 40th percentile
- No separate entrance or direct admission without NEET
- NEET score valid for 1 year only
- Indian Nationals, NRI, OCI, PIO all eligible
- State domicile needed for 85% State Quota seats
- No domicile required for AIQ or Deemed university seats

MBBS Syllabus 2026 – CBME Framework (NMC Approved)
The MBBS program in India follows the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) framework mandated by NMC. The total program spans 5.5 years (4.5 years of academic study + 1 year compulsory rotating internship). Here is the complete phase-wise syllabus:
Anatomy

Students begin clinical rotations in the teaching hospital. Subjects include General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and all clinical electives. Strong emphasis on bedside clinical skills, case presentations, and patient communication (AETCOM curriculum).
Final year covers all major clinical specialties: Medicine & allied, Surgery & allied, Paediatrics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radiology, Anaesthesia, Orthopaedics, and community postings. University final exams are held at the end of this phase.
After final year exams, graduates must complete a 12-month compulsory rotating internship (CRI) in the teaching hospital. Rotations include all major departments. A stipend is paid during internship. MBBS degree is awarded only after successful completion of internship. This is followed by NMC registration to practice.
