NEET 2026 Exam Pattern Update

NEET 2026 Exam Pattern Update

Critical Update: NEET 2026 is expected to revert to the Pre-COVID Pattern. This means the optional "Section B" may be removed.

With no optional questions, you must cover the entire syllabus. Skipping "hard chapters" is no longer a viable strategy. Speed and accuracy will be the deciding factors.

Particulars New Pattern (Expected)
Total Questions 180 (All Compulsory)
Duration 3 Hours (180 Minutes)
Subject Distribution Physics (45), Chemistry (45), Biology (90)
Marking Scheme +4 for Correct, -1 for Incorrect
NEET 1 Year Study Plan

The "Phase-Wise" 1-Year Roadmap

Consistency beats intensity. Divide your year into 3 strategic phases to ensure multiple revisions.

Phase 1: Foundation (May 2025 - Oct 2025)
  • Focus: Complete Syllabus (Class 11 & 12).
  • Resource: NCERT + Coaching Notes.
  • Goal: Understand concepts, don't rush. Solve 50 MCQs daily.
Phase 2: Consolidation (Nov 2025 - Jan 2026)
  • Focus: Part-Syllabus Mock Tests.
  • Task: Identify weak areas (e.g., Rotational Motion, Equilibrium) and fix them.
  • Goal: Finish 1st complete revision.
Phase 3: Final Lap (Feb 2026 - Exam Day)
  • Focus: Full Syllabus Mock Tests (Daily/Alternate Days).
  • Task: Simulate exam timing (2 PM - 5 PM).
  • Goal: Improve speed to solve 180 Qs in 160 mins.
NEET Physics Strategy

Physics: The Rank Decider

Physics is often the toughest section. The key is Conceptual Clarity + Numerical Practice.

High Weightage Units (Do or Die):
  • Mechanics 12-14 Qs
  • Electrodynamics (12th) 9-11 Qs
  • Modern Physics & Optics 8-10 Qs
Tip: Create a "Formula Notebook". Review it every morning. 70% of NEET Physics questions are direct formula applications.
NEET Chemistry Strategy

Chemistry: The Scoring Subject

Treat it like Physics. Focus on formulas (Thermodynamics, Equilibrium, Mole Concept). Practice numericals from NCERT Exemplar.

NCERT is God. Memorize all named reactions. Understand GOC (General Organic Chemistry) deeply—it's the base for 15+ questions.

Rote learning is required here. Read NCERT blocks (s, p, d, f) multiple times. Focus on Chemical Bonding and Coordination Compounds (High Weightage).
NEET Biology Strategy

Biology: The Selection Base

Biology comprises 50% of the paper (360 marks). Your target should be 340+.

The "NCERT Filter" Rule

Do NOT study anything outside NCERT. NEET Biology is 100% NCERT based. Read the text, summary, and diagram captions at least 10 times.

Top Weightage Units:
  • Genetics & Evolution: ~15 Questions
  • Human Physiology: ~12 Questions
  • Biotechnology: ~10 Questions (Small unit, high yield)
  • Ecology: ~10 Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Not mandatory, but structured guidance helps. With disciplined self-study, YouTube resources, and regular online mock tests, thousands clear NEET every year without expensive coaching.

Quality over quantity. 6-8 hours of focused study (excluding school/coaching) is sufficient. Consistency is key. Avoid burnout by taking short breaks.

If Section B (optional questions) is removed, you must cover the entire syllabus. You cannot skip "difficult" chapters expecting them to be in the optional section. Your preparation must be 100% comprehensive.
